Last Friday, October 22nd, the Texas Public Safety Commission approved some changes to the state’s Driver Responsibility Program that lessens fees for moving violations committed by low-income Texans. The program established an automatic point system for moving violations.

Lawmakers approved of the changes so as to lessen the financial impact moving violations have on low-income Texans. This applies to Texas residents living below 125 percent of the poverty level.

Here are the new rules:

• Low-income Texas residents get to pay 10% less on their moving violations.


• For a maximum fine of $250.


• Suspended licenses will be reinstated as long as payments are being made.
